ALISON COOK

Dr. Alison Cook is a psychologist, author, and host of The Best of You Podcast. She provides practical tools for spiritually-minded people to help transform obstacles into opportunities.

As a therapist early on, Dr. Alison discovered a recurring theme in her clients — they knew how to be good to others but not to themselves. They struggled to set healthy boundaries and stand up for themselves. She then began to explore what the Bible had to say about agency — personal boundaries, emotional health, and complex relationship challenges. Combining spiritual wisdom with tools from psychology, I envisioned a way to love others without losing yourself.

Wanting to share this holistic approach, she wrote her first book with Kimberly Miller, Boundaries for Your Soul, a faith-infused interpretation of the Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy model.  Following that success, her second book, The Best of You, delves into a faith-based exploration of the true self, earning recognition as an ECPA bestseller. Additionally, she launched a weekly podcast offering faith-centered healing resources that consistently ranks in the top 100 podcasts in its category on Apple.

LIVREPRESS and DR. ALISON

Dr. Alison has an amazing and deep understanding of what happens when the church ignores the needs of people. She explained the term “spiritual bypassing” and that’s what called our attention here at LIVREPRESS. Spiritual bypassing is a way of using religious platitudes, such as “pray it away” or “choose joy” to encourage people to avoid dealing honestly with wounds and painful emotions. We immediately contacted Harper Collins to obtain the Portuguese rights for The Best of You. It will be coming out in 2025, in Brasil.
